This picture was taken in early September on the Singing Hills trail, which is part of the Millennium Trail network in Lake County. This section starts on Gilmer Road in Wauconda and wraps its way into Volo and Round Lake. This scene was snapped minutes before sunset, so a number of interesting things pop out.
The night sky alternates in color from a light orange at the very bottom, transitions to a yellow, then a light blue, and finally a darker blue at the top. The clouds are a mixture of black and different shades of red. The scenery, i.e. the path, grasses, trees, and power lines in the distance, is covered in shadow and almost looks like an outline rather than fixed objects. It almost looks as if it was a painted picture rather than a photograph.
Whether you are bathed in sunlight or cloaked in darkness, always keep your eyes on the horizon.
