This picture was taken back in late July on one of my bike treks around the beautiful Lake County Forest Preserve trails. Riding these trails all summer not only strengthened my body, but my mind as well. I was able to get lost in my music and in the beauty of the trails and surrounding landscape, which is one of the more freeing feelings I have ever felt.

The scene in this particular picture is in Volo on the Singing Hills trails, which have been the subject of past blog postings. The section of trail does not go on for more than a few miles, but I have experienced so many great things here. With the sun at my back, you see nothing but the wide open sky and the beauty of the rolling, off-colored clouds. The great thing about the sky and clouds is that they are unpredictable. You never know what they are going to do or look like from moment to moment, which is pretty cool if you ask me.

Like the clouds and sky, life is very unpredictable. We never really know what is going to happen to us from moment to moment because there is so much that is not in our control. All we can do is keep living our lives the best we can and hope to leave some sort of legacy behind. This is very bad news for those of us who are planners, and I am referring to myself when I say this. We really like knowing what is going to happen all the time and often get frustrated over the fact that we put a lot into something and did not get the type of result we were looking for.

Yes, it is difficult not knowing what is going to happen and if everything is going to be okay, but is that not part of the journey? Are we not supposed to experience struggle, whether we saw it coming or not, in order to know what true happiness feels like? Think about that the next time you find yourself frustrated over your circumstances and know that just as easily as things go bad, they can go overwhelmingly in your favor.

Life is all about the unpredictable, so embrace it.
